An organic chemical facility producing multiple resistant chlorinated compounds and other quasi-toxic wastes had experienced a loss of TOC/COD removal during a critical production period. The recovery was slowed by high influent loadings and high biological treatment unit temperatures above 40 degrees Centigrade.
With the goal being to restore biological degradation of the quasi-toxic compounds and meet both monthly production goals and environmental permits, the facility worked with Aster Bio to create a bioaugmentation product for removal of chlorinated hydrocarbons, amines, and other problematic compounds present in the influent.
Within 24 hours of adding Aster Bio’s AB Phenozyme, the facility noted improved floc formation and oxygen uptake rates. By Day 3, the TOC and ammonia removal had returned to acceptable levels.
