Erik Rumbaugh has worked in wastewater treatment and environmental biotechnology for more than 20 years. Before founding Aster Bio in 2003, he worked in product development and field application of new technologies for leading international biotechnology companies. Rumbaugh has worked with industrial and municipal wastewater facilities to ensure optimal performance of their treatment systems and in modifying existing systems to avoid extensive capital expenditures.
His research focus areas include developing low-cost waste treatment systems, microbial enhanced oil recovery, harnessing competitive exclusion properties of microbes in natural environments, and application of bioaugmentation to optimize a biological treatment system.
Rumbaugh received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from The College of William and Mary, a Master of Science in environmental science from Louisiana State University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
